    Make sure every job you do is top-notch. Be polite, show up on time, and leave things better than you found them. Ask your happy clients to tell others, and maybe even offer a referral bonus like a discount or a free service. Some people just need a little nudge to spread the word.

    2. Get Visible in Your Community

    If no one knows you exist, how they gonna hire you?

    Start showing up locally. Join your Chamber of Commerce. Go to local networking events or sponsor a little league team or a school fundraiser. It doesn’t have to cost a lot — sometimes just showing up and shaking hands is enough. People like hiring people they’ve seen around.

    4. Use Facebook and Instagram — But Smartly

    Social media can be a huge time suck if you’re just posting random stuff. But if you do it right, it can bring in real customers.

    Post photos of your work before and after. Share short videos of your team in action. Highlight customer reviews. Don’t be afraid to show your face either — people like knowing who’s behind the business. It builds trust.

    Also, Facebook groups can be a goldmine. Join local groups like “Community News,” “Town Buy and Sell,” or “Local Recommendations.” Don’t be spammy though. Just engage, answer questions, and post occasionally about your services. The key is to be helpful, not salesy.

    5. Offer Seasonal Discounts or Packages

    Everyone loves a good deal, especially if it feels timely. In spring, offer a “Spring Refresh Package” for cleaning. Before the holidays, run a “Pre-Holiday Deep Clean” or a “Holiday Paint Touch-Up Special.”

    Giving your services a name and tying them to a time of year makes them feel more urgent. People will be more likely to book because they don’t wanna miss out.

    6. Partner With Other Local Businesses

    You know who else is trying to grow their local business? A ton of other people just like you. So why not help each other?

    If you’re a cleaning service, team up with a real estate agent or a property manager. They always need cleaners for move-ins and move-outs. If you’re a painter, partner with a contractor or handyman who doesn’t want to deal with painting but gets asked about it all the time.

    Create a network of referrals. You send business their way, they send business yours.

    7. Have a Website — But Keep It Simple

    Yes, you should have a website, even if it’s just one page. It doesn’t need to be fancy, but it should look professional. Include:

    • Your contact info

    • Service area

    • Testimonials

    • Photos of your work

    • A way to request a quote or call you directly

    Just because someone hired you once doesn’t mean they won’t need you again. In fact, if you did a great job, they probably will. Keep a list of your past clients and send them a quick text or email every few months. Something like:

    “Hey John! Hope you’re doing well. Just wanted to check in — need anything cleaned this month? We’ve got a fall special going on.”

    A little nudge like that can go a long way.
